Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of increased morbidity and mortality worldwide, and arterial hypertension is a leading risk factor for this. Although it is now a manageable problem, a large percentage of patients do not reach blood pressure targets. The reason for this is the heterogeneity in etiology and pathogenesis of the disease.
Elevated blood pressure has an extremely adverse effect on the brain, it is a major risk factor not only for hemorrhagic, ischemic and recurrent stroke, but also for cognitive disorders.
